When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “ Is that you, my daughter?” Then she told her all that the man had done for her.
The women who is worth 7 sons!
Ruth is a truly amazing example of a godly woman, she is extremely loyal and faithful to her mother in-law Naomi, both of Naomi’s sons died leaving her childless and already a widow, she had no one left.
Life was pretty harsh on widows in those days. Naomi did though have two daughters in-law, they all started out on a journey to a land of good crops, but on the way Naomi said to them to both turn back, to go to their own mothers and remarry.
The other daughter in-law Orpah did turn back, but Ruth refused. She stuck with Naomi, wanting to honour her and she ended up working in the field belonging to Boaz to support them.
Boaz was a suitable match for Ruth and Naomi suggested she pursue this option as Boaz was a good man who could support Ruth and give her a new life.
Boaz was happy to take her as his wife and said to her that “all my fellow townsmen know that you are a worthy woman.” Her reputation had gone before her. Boaz knew that she would make an excellent honouring wife.
If she would honour and follow her dead husbands mother this way, she was sure to honour and follow a new husband in as good a fashion. Any wise man, would know that she was going to make a great wife!
In Ruth 4:15 it is said of Ruth that she is worth more to Naomi more than 7 sons she is well treated and provided for by Boaz in Ruth 3.16 because she is a woman who understands honour.
Men need honour and respect from their wives, as much as wives need unconditional love from their husbands. If couples can master this give and take they are set up for success!
If you are a single man, or you have a son who you are grooming for adulthood, be reminded that the way a woman respects and treats her parents will speak a lot about how she will respect and treat her husband.
You can learn a lot from the relationship she has with her Father as well, this will have a tremendous impact on her marriage.
So if you are looking for a wife or guiding a son, pay close attention to the way she honours elders, particularly those in authority over here. If it is like Ruth she would be worth more than 7 sons to a man!
