I just did it! No, not cross my eyes like the freaky guy above! I signed up to my local Gym and Pool. I’m now an ‘exercise freak’ and hopefully still will be in 2 months time.
While I was in the swimming pool I realised something Big! I was in a pool where I had a beautiful view on one side and a boring wall on the other, so swimming one way I was able to look out the windows, light pouring in and viewing the grass and blue sky outside – it looked (when frantically swimming) somewhat like I was in an outside pool in paradise, whereas the other end, just a hard wall!
I like to close my eyes when I swim (especially when I have no goggles) so when I took a breath I would lift my head out the water and take a good look at that view, then when eyes were closed, I still had a retained image of that paradise like view, when I was going the opposite way I had a mental image of that plain old wall when my eyes were closed.
The realisation was that even though my eyes were closed and I couldn’t physically see the view outside, my mind retained it and with eyes closed I was sure I was still looking at it. This made my ‘up’ lengths so much more enjoyable and easy.
So what we focus are eyes upon will stay in our mind and spur us on, it will be the fuel we need when we can’t actually see it!
Have you experienced the terrible side of this? Ever looked at porn? then when you try and forget about it you can’t because you an still see it even though you shut the computer/phone off hours ago?
It turns out earlier today when my kids were on their nap and my wife an I were watching a film in bed I searched for a car on autotrader that I liked, I took a screen shot of it and put it in a folder in my phones photos called dream purchases. The car is just a cheap older fancy sporty Saab, so it is an attainable goal for a 2nd car to go alongside our new ‘boring’ family car a Vauxhall Zafira!
But by putting that pic in a folder that I will see regularly it is going to keep that goal focused and very likely to be achieved! The point is – What are you focusing on? What goals do you have? And so how are you putting the steps in your minds eye to focus in on them and make sure you hit them?
