It’s easier to save than I thought! Now that I have started tracking every penny I spend (which yes is boring to begin – but for me I’ve got into the habit of it after a month)
This has come about because for a number of years, we have gone through spells of doing well with our savings and then blowing it all and starting again, which happened again this year with some big expenses over the summer – so it’s time to get series!
An audio book that has really helped is ‘The Automatic Millionaire’ this book inspired me massively and showed me how simple these things really are.
One of the major lessons from this month is that we have to ‘pay ourselves first’ (key automatic millionaire principle) So I need to put 15% into savings account as the money comes in each week like I’m doing with the Tithes account other wise it will keep getting gobbled up. So put money where it needs to be 1st! This actually curtails your spending and teaches you to live off the rest – simple switch but I wasn’t doing it before!
Although we saved very little this month it was due to some high expenses – new brakes on car (£340) and emergency child passport’s (£200!!) SA here we come!!
Real success came through this process by cancelling a double 02 bill – which embarrassingly I wouldn’t have known it but for this stringent process.
Another great success is that I stuck at it for a month and daily looked at figures and put it in right page! I feel really good about taking control of my finances in this way and can see how I can start saving and take advantage of the compound effect.
I plan to write about this again next month and encourage you to take more control of your money too!
