So we’ve just been through month 2 of intentional saving and using 5 different pots for our money. The major issue is that you have to maintain your finances everyday – you have to know what is being spent so you keep to some kind of budget. This month for us has been hectic! We have been in and out of hospital a few times with our son which has led to extra convenience spending and less focus to look at finances, combine that with lecturing a couple evenings a week I’ve had little time to look at the finances and in all honesty it stopped becoming a habit! And the habit is key!

Thankfully going over the last almost 2 weeks spending today I have realised how vital the daily checking is and a reminder will go back on my phone to check each night.

So last month we actually unsaved £150 wow – woops, main reason as I’ve said is the not checking but also there was a few major expenses that we allowed because we weren’t monitoring, such as car hire for our holiday, Christmas presents, a daughters birthday party, clothes, and most of all some massive spending at the supermarkets. Same every time when we take our eyes off the account we blow cash on food we surely don’t need!

So there you have it – Check every day! Check every day!
