Some thoughts on Sabbath….
- It tastes like slowly drinking a refreshing drink in a new place with no watch!
- It feels like the cold damp rock and pebble on my warm feet!
- It sounds like the sea, slowly, methodically, purposefully, lapping up against the shore!
- It smells like the flowers you would of stopped to smell when you were small!
- It feels like God had planned it for us all along but we somehow got older and forgot!

Last week I took a day to get out in the sun and to cycle from Bristol to Clevedon (see pic) and home again! A distance of around 30miles all together. It took around 2 1/2 hours each way with stops. And then I spent around 3 hours in Clevedon, drinking a refreshing drink at a pub on the beach front. And then sat on the pebbles at Lady Bay in prayer.
It was the most amazing time. For me who is from the countryside and comes alive in the open spaces this was awesome (I know for many – my wife for one, it would not be)
But I loved it! Chance to extensively read my Bible in the pub, time to sit and pray for an hour on the beach. And time just dialogging and confessing to God on the bike. I learnt some home truths!
God spoke loud and clear about some issues in my life and I made sure to deal with those things in prayer and journal them too. Taking the day I just had the time and space to hear loud and clear some stuff that was really important but was not hearing or at least dealing with in the busyness of work and the home!
I remember again at least 6 of these times a year are key!!! Once a month would be amazing!! And a great time to take stock of where I am at! When is your day? This summer let there be at least a day for you, and God!
