This is a great biblical principle for being a Godly son, husband & father! –

Philemon is a book of the Bible that often gets over looked, as it is a very small letter that is written to a slave owner to envourage him to take back his former slave Onesimus.

And yet there is great wisdom to be found. We often try to get our way by the authority we have, Paul could of done this more than most, as the founder of so many churches.

But he realises, it is better to appeal to someone with love. Love is the very Gospel. When appealing to our children, our wife or even a work colleague, love is a better angle to go from than authority.

Authority can get the required action, but not the heart attitude in the other person. Especially in our homes – it is the heart attitude more than the action that we should be concerned about.
