Continuing the 3:16 series…..

Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor.
Proverbs 3:16 NKJV

What do you want outta life? What are you here for? What keeps you going? Is it the temporary? Is it the eternal? The temporary can satisfy for a while. But the eternal will satisfy a whole lot longer!

So often young men chase after the temporary, the money the opportunity to get more money, the pretty girl or pretty girls. Chasing after the next high, chasing after their feelings, striving to prove to themselves and anyone around that they are somebody. Though this kind of striving don’t really take us to where we really deep down – if we stop and think for a few moments, where we want to be.

And often somewhere in our 30’s or 40’s we will wake up to the fact even have an epiphany for some, that life is not all about ….. that, that we thought it was. Perhaps we have a spiritual encounter or for many a birth of a child – which is quite a devine encounter in its self! These life events can grab our attention to the things that actually matter. And writing this in 2021 even a pandemic can do this to many!

But just because you woke up one day dosn’t mean you won’t fall asleep and snooze the next day. And then get back on the wrong train of chasing the stuff. Getting the affirmation from the stuff. Stressing and worrying about the stuff. And the stuff doesn’t matter! You knew that.

People matter. Eternity matters. Your heart and others hearts matter. Wisdom matters. And so the pursuit of these things begin. And some men go on and off this course time and time again.

The Bible in the Gospel of Matthew says to focus on the Kingdom of God and then all the temporary stuff will be added onto you. That’s what this proverb is saying also. That is what Jesus would say to all young men! That’s exactly what he said to his 12 young men who went on to change the entire world.

That has been the focus of my life for the last 13 years and it has been wonderful. I have had so many blessings in so many ways. Of course my wonderful family is the greatest blessing.

I have seen and I say with the humility of Moses, that I have increased in wisdom and favour each year of my born again life. Each year because of prayer and Bible reading more of Christ has been formed in me. I have more people asking for advice. I have more patience for others. And although I am busier than ever I am more at peace than ever because wisdom is a rewarder.

Length of days surely comes in part from a well of peace and order in one’s life. And the kind of riches and honour that are best are certainly not having vast wealth and with it stress and others envy. But, a richness of heart and wisdom, amongst men, at least amongst noble men – this is to be most desired, respected and honoured.

Keep following Him. Don’t tangle up with the worlds ways and distractions. Eternal riches and honer is what you want Christian!
