It is time to reassess my physical health, the spring is here and summer wont be long. The mornings are light and the evenings are brighter here in the UK, there really is no excuse and with 4 children and a busy job, it is difficult to maintain good energy levels. Of course there is never enough hours in the day, but improving physical health will actually give me more energy that makes it seem like there are more hours in the day.
In the past I have read a book, called What would Jesus Eat by Dan Colbert, that and other books have encouraged my general healthy diet over the years, but I am determined to do more with it and now that my son is 12 and still chasing a football career, I desire to get healthier than ever over the next 6 months, see some changes in my diet and my exercise. Really just to make it more consistent.
- Cut out all the processed food. Especially chocolates (only decent dark choc) cut out cakes (except special occasions and the real best cakes lol) no fizzy drinks – again stop it!
- Make healthy snacks again. I was making some great cookies with oats, banana and raisons they tasted great especially when hot. I just forgot about them – I’m the kind of person that needs to systematise it and make it a regular routine.
- Add nice fruit and veg in to my diet. Yes it will cost more but will pay off in the long run.
- Use greek yogurt with fruit and nuts more.
- Bulk cook more often – so there is always a decent healthy meal that can be quickly prepared when needed.
- Stretch every morning on a morning walk – I aim to do this 1st thing in the morning – the dog will be greatful and probably in a better mood also.
- Find time each week to play with my young children – especially football with Luke while he is still young.
- Go for a swim and sauna once a week, it’s a great way to start a working day.
- Aim to run 15k in a week
- Press ups every day and keep an excel spreadsheet record!
- Get out and walk regularly with my wife. This is not so much for my physical health as I generally walk a lot, but the closeness and communication this will add to our marriage by regular spontaneous short walks, is certainly worth adding an 11th to the list.
And by posting about it here, my intention is that it give me more incentive to actually stick with it.
Here’s to a healthy May!
