When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him and the criminals there, one on his right, the other on his left. [Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.”] They divided his garments by casting lots. The people stood by and watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Messiah of God.” Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.” Above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the King of the Jews.” Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.”
Luke 23:33-39 NABRE
It would of been tempting to make a plan B even for Jesus – He still was 100% man.
It’s tempting for us perhaps when thr world jeers at us.
What kept him on that cross?
The joy set before him Heb 12..
It was you…. it was me…. it was stranger you’ll pass later.
This was not only our salvation! It was an object lesson for our lives also
What kept Jesuson the cross – was his spiritual life with Abba.
Jesus had 1 last day to live.
What did He prioritise? Not a trip to Disney! After a meal with his buddies it was prayer in the Garden – with Abba!
I’ve been at a memorial service this week for a friend 56. Preacher concluded we don’t know when God decides our race is run and we’ve fulfilled our purpose!
He reminded us to live ready. That’s easier as a 39 year old in world we live in to think Jesus is returning soon. But what if my life expired tomorrow am I ready to meet my maker? Have I ran the race He has shown me to run? Fulfilled the objectives He has asked of me?
Have you asked?
What has He said?
What is your call? Your cross?
The earlier you know the better for us all!
The only way to KNOW your time isn’t up today is if you KNOW your purpose inside out.
He has shown me this week and confirmed with a sign and an elders voice in my life.
Now I must live as though I am fixed to that cross. It is a cross. It is not an easy call. As non are they are always self sacrificing – though doing God’s will should always have the joy of the Kingdom in it. (I love the thougt it was the joy of seeing us that kept Jesus carrying his cross and enduring the lashes and nails!)
What is your call your cross?
The only way to live is on it.
The way we stay day in day out upon our cross is a life of devotion. Escaping to gardens is big for me. Your garden may be a city centre or a music studio or a library?
Mine is 100% places like this.
When you listen to this I’ll be on a walk to Glastonbury! With one purpose praying about my call/my cross.
I encourage you this Easter…
Remind yourself of the cross Jesus has you on. All your sacrifice will be easier more joyful when you know why your carrying it! And what the end to your journey looks like!
Take time this weekend to pray in to it and to enjoy it again.
Life is short – over in the twinkling of an eye.
It’s too short not to choose joy to choose love to choose peace.
The greatest way to be filled continually in this is to be purposely and reguarly in the Word and Spirit talking to Abba about that call.
Adults – What is your call? If you don’t know what was the last thing you KNOW He told you to do. Do it and spend some extra time this week in your ‘own garden – alone with Him!’
Children – what are your 2 greatest memories. Meditate on them. God was delighted at this time too! If because of others – find a way to show your gratitude.
