Go West Young Man

….Let the evil go east!

The following are lyrics from a 1980’s Michael W Smith song. I came across it in the last couple weeks (now my daughter and I can’t stop singing it) after my Pastor has been preaching the point innthr last few weeks that in the Bible to go West is to go towards Holiness 😀

Lyrics:

I’m blazing a trail that leads to vice
So easily enticed
By darker means

When out of the wilderness of choice
I hear that one still voice
Call to me

Go west young man
Go west young man
When the evil go east
Go west young man
Go west young man
Find a heart that’s golden

Why must I wander like a cloud
Following the crowd
Well, I don’t know

But I’m asking for the will to fight
To wear the crown of life
And you say go

Go west young man
Go west young man
When the evil go east
Go west young man
Go west young man
Find a heart that’s golden

It does not matter how well we do in our personal walks with the Lord there is still greater levels of personal Holiness to enter. That is the beautiful thing about the Word of God and of discipleship it is never ending but a joyful journey of being shaped and transformed into the image of God.

I went forward for prayer today at our local church in responce to a friends message about Matthew 4 and how Jesus fully beat the tempter in the wilderness. I was greeted by a zealous prayer from an elder that stirred my Spirit and renewed my strength with the Word of God and a prophetic reminder of what He has for me. (Never be too mature to walk forward for humble prayer)

Then this afternoon a young man I used to mentor 10plus years ago as a teen in youth ministry asked to meet and so we met in my garage studio and unpacked some of the things that have been troubling him. I was able to exhort him to GO WEST YOUNG MAN!

What a privilege that is, thank you Lord for bringing this young man back to yourself and being able to help.

The Michael W Smith song reminds us in most catchy late 80s style to leave the wide path that is easily ran down, that promises quick pleasures and temporary satisfaction. And instead to head in the opposite direction where few dare to travel. To a place of victory of grace of adventure. A place that will lead one day to a crown of life and in this life a golden character and testimony.

Let us Lord – all have the will to fight!

Thank you Lord that the battle is yours! It is never ours to face alone. Through us you will work in us the grace we need to stand against all temptation and live in greater degrees of victory.

Grace to you!

Go West!
