Don’t drown!

2 minutes

Legendary men’s ministry speaker and writer Ed Cole, states “you don’t drown by falling in the water, you drown by staying there.” I am so greatful that this is true. I wonder how many times I fell this year? And wonder how many you did as well? In this very strange year of Covid 19, it seemed many times like the pressure was on and for many it has been to greater degrees than others.

But for all of us, even those in safe jobs and a degree of affluence to shield from the harshness of the season we are in, it has been tough, at times overwhelming and a year of great pressure.

A scripture that has kept me and sustained me through these times has been Hebrews 12; 1-2

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

My senior Pastor gave this passage of scripture as a prophetic encouragement to focus on for the year back in February and it plus the chapters of 9,10,11& 12 from Hebrews has been so richly encouraging and revelationary to me over the last 8 months.

I am so greatful that when we as men, mess up, whatever the situation, whatever the sin, whatever the scale – Jesus has paid the price for that fall and He lifts us up and seats us on high right next to Him again. What a faithful brother we have! It is my determination and I hope yours too – to be a faithful brother like our brother Jesus.

Don’t ever let the weight and the sin overwhelm you, drag you down and ultimately take you out. Rely on the God of mercy – keep on fixing your eye on Him and He will sustain you!
